The Use of Hot Potatoes in English Lessons

Using Hot Potatoes, teachers can create their own online exercises where students can get access at home. Online exercises such as cross word puzzles, open cloze, matching, etc can be easily created with a few clicks. I think it is very a convenient and effective tool in English lessons. By varying the types of exercises students need to to do, they will be motivated. For instance, instead of repeating doing reading exercises, students will get bored easily. But with the use of IT and Hot Potatoes, students can experience something new. Therefore, by changing the types of exercises students do, they find the experience of learning English more interesting.

    But these resources can only be fully utilized when common teachers are given more support, knowledge and training in using technology. I wonder how much is being done in educating teachers in this field of technology. I think there is a long way ahead.

    That being said, Hot Potatoes could be limited by its simple interface and text-oriented nature. I think it is more suitable for more senior students who are actually concerned about their language learning.

    Hey Alex, it's Margie here. Do you think u'd use hot potatos to teach your secondary school students? I agree with you that it will enhance your student's interest and that they can participate anywhere and anytime if they have access to the internet. Students are very hard to please now, it is hard to gain their interest by teaching the old fashion way. A black board, chalk and pencil and paper. What do you think?

    Here, I read about the advantages of Hot Potatoes. What else do you think concerning its limitations? Is it applicable for students at different levels?
